A shoutlist of my favourite films
Fight Club
Based on a fantastic book by Chuck Palahnuik with an at-times confusing, but overall satisfying plot. Great performances from Piit, Norton and Bonham-Carter.
American History X
Another great Ed Norton Film, a great portrayal of regret. Its about Neo-Nazi culture in America and highlights the height of ignorance in that culture. It's hard-hitting and shocking, leaves nothing to the imagination.
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
A Guy Richie British gangster film, its smart and the jokes are fast. Has the right levels of suspense, humour and action
In The Loop
Recently released black comedy, its probably the funniest film I've ever seen. Its a political satire and will have you looking at the government in a whole new light. If you see one film in 2009...
The Breakfast Club
An oldie but a goodie. If you haven't seen it, shame on you. A story of 5 very different teenagers brought together for one Saturday detention.
RocknRolla
Guy Richie's newest Brit gangster film, does have a similiar style of storytelling to Snatch and Lock, Stock but is definitely worth a watch, if only for the great character Johnny Quid (played by Toby Kebbel) who gets the majority of the good lines. The film is hilarious and has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard.
American Beauty
This is a reall different story set in American suburbia, it shows a seemingly normal family falling apart. Kevin Spacey and Mena Suvari are both fantastic.
